Favorite Teen Stores

can you live without jeans?I often have requests for a list of favorite teenage stores/websites that provides an easy, clickable resource for parents.  Although I don’t claim to be an expert on the subject and I’m sure there are MANY other great resources, here’s a good starting point.   One thing I’ve noticed about teen’s clothing is how localized it is.   There was a subtle shift in style when we moved from Texas to California. But, since they are both “hot” climates, there are more similarities than differences.   Most parents, regardless of their location, will notice  similarities.  Media has homogenized fashion for our teens although Texas kids still wear cowboy hats.  Note:  The list will include both sexes.

  • American Eagle Outfitter: Fashionable and hip, AE offers broad selection of essentials for boys and girls.  Site is  well designed and easy to use.
  • J Crew: classic yet stylish enough for teens to enjoy. Can be pricey but they have great sales.  Great for the emergency “go to” place for special dresses, shirts, sweaters and shoes.
  • Urban Outfitters: casual clothes for both sexes. Shop their extensive sale pages and web exclusives.
  • Gap/Old Navy:  perennial teen favorites for basics.  If you’re not sure what your teen wants, get them a Gap Gift Card.  Currently, there is a 40% off sale in both stores.
  • Pacsun.com: Cool, casual clothes.   Check out their 2 for $25 t-shirt sale going on now.
  • Abercrombie & Fitch:  the loud music in the store is enough to send me running home to my computer to use their online store.  I personally think the girl’s shorts are too short but that’s just me.
  • Forever 21: if your teen is going to buy trendy clothes, here’s the place.  Can’t beat the prices.
  • Quicksilver: West Coast boys love these clothes.
  • North Face:  Staple clothes for teens in Northern California. Expensive but if you shop the sales you can find well-made jackets and shoes for a reasonable cost.  They last forever and are extremely durable.  We share in our family.
  • Brooks Brothers: I love their dress shirts (for men and women).  They’re well-designed and you don’t have to iron them!   You can buy 3 boy’s shirts and get the 4th free.  They have a similar promotion for men and women.  You can’t find a better made dress shirt, unless it’s custom-tailored.

Other options:

  • Torrid (sister store to Hot Topic): Plus-size fashion for teens
  • L.L.Bean: good for basics (including backpacks)  Most teens I know won’t buy from here but their parents will. Current promotion: $10 Gift Card with a $50 purchase.
  • Rainbow sandals: every California teen (I know)  has a pair of these.

That’s my first attempt.  Soon I’ll make a list of technology finds for teens.  Write in and let me know your favorite selections.

Disclaimer: I did not receive any information, products or contact from the above-mentioned stores.

Nice post… the thing that caught my eye was the Kids in CA owning Rainbow Sandals. We’ve seen a huge spike during this time of year for Rainbow Sandal purchases from all over the United States.

Nice to know other parents get to see Rainbows hanging out in their front hall – even on the East Coast!
