Valentine’s Day in the Middle East
Never Thought of This Before…
Chalk it up to living in my own middle-class,United States- democracy coccoon; I never thought of Valentine’s day as a political or religious hot-button. Then I read this. Who would have thought the Saudis would be disturbed by the color red and the concept of love? or Valentine’s Day? I’ll grant you that most holidays in the U.S. have become over-blown versions of their earlier selves. The greeting card and floral industry probably have something to do with this. But, I don’t begrudge marketers for trying. It’s up to us to keep our holidays in perspective.
Still…I can’t understand how preventing the sale of red flowers is going to stop love or the expresssions of love on Valentine’s Day or any other day for that matter. It makes me think of really strict parents who think if they lock their kid up, they won’t get in trouble. Ha! Good luck,” Mr. Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice”. I guess they don’t like rock and roll either…

Stumble it!
